The Coolest 1950s Les Paul We've Ever Seen: Pat's 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.14 дней назад
This 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom is the coolest 1950s Les Paul I've ever seen! We purchased this vintage guitar from Pat who was its second owner. Pat purchased the '58 Les Paul in the early 1960s and said it already had the gold leaf and berry folk art customization on the front. It weighs in at 9 lbs even and is a perfect playing vintage guitar after a nice refret with '59 Standard sized fret...
Super Clean Pre-CBS 1963 Olympic White Fender JAZZMASTER!
Просмотров 52021 день назад
This Pre-CBS 1963 Fender Jazzmaster in original custom color Olympic White came to us all the way from Colorado from the home of its original owner. Its premium features give clear indication as to why Fender intended for the Jazzmaster to be their top of the line flagship model. Clay Dots, Custom Color, Matching Headstock and the always beautiful Tortoise Shell Pickguard make this thing to die...
Uncirculated Pre-CBS Custom Color Strat: 1962 Fender Stratocaster Fiesta Red!

Check out this vintage Pre-CBS custom color Strat: 1962 Fender Stratocaster in original Fiesta Red finish! We purchased this from the family of its original owner a few years after he passed. It's the classic vintage guitar story: he toured this Strat in the 60s with his band until family and life ushered him away from playing professionally. The Strat was relegated to church and home gigs afte...
This 1966 Fender Jazzmaster is the PERFECT Vintage Guitar For You!
Просмотров 66228 дней назад
This original 1966 Fender Jazzmaster stands alone from the rest. The original 3 tone sunburst finish is covered in very fine checking all over which creates an authentic and unique look and feel. The combination of dot inlays, neck binding, and a large headstock, is the ideal Jazzmaster spec in my humble opinion. This Jazzmaster came to us in 100% original condition, other than a re-fret, from ...
Full Freddie King Spec: An Original 1960 Gibson ES-345 From Its Original Owner!
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
There's one specific version of Gibson's ES-345 model that I think is the most important for a guitar collector to add to their arsenal: Cherry Red (Watermelon version), long pickguard, and factory stop bar tailpiece. But Gibson only made this version for a very short time: a handful in 1959 and less than 300 in 1960. By early 1961, the long pickguard was shortened and the Cherry Red hue had da...
Not all 1970s Les Pauls are equal: 1974 Les Paul Custom White! (Kalamazoo!)
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Why does it feel like all 1970s Gibson guitars are lumped into the same category? This 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom is a great example of the difference between the early 1970s Gibsons and the late 1970s Gibsons. 1974 and 1974 are a significant transitional time period for the iconic Gibson brand because that's when production of most of the Les Pauls moved to Nashville from the old Kalamazoo Gi...
The Tiniest Vintage Fender: The Electric Mandolin in Olympic White from 1966!

Check out this tiny piece of Fender history: the 1966 Fender Electric Mandolin in original Olympic White custom color finish! This has just come in from the family of its original owner and is so much fun to play. It feels like a mandolin that's made for guitar players since it's a four string instrument instead of the doubled 8 string typical mandolin. I'm a guitar player, so holding and playi...
The Cleanest 1966 Fender Stratocaster We've Ever Had
Просмотров 5862 месяца назад
This crazy clean 1966 Fender Stratocaster in original Sunburst finish has just come in from the family of its original owner out of southern California! It's possibly the lowest mileage 1960s Strat we've ever had. When it came in, I noticed that the tops of the frets had been filed in a really poor way and some places of the frets didn't have enough meat left for a fret dress. I took it over to...
"Special"?? Vintage 1968 Gibson ES-345 Sparkling Burgundy with a hidden feature!

Just in from its original owner out of Long Island, NY is this incredibly well preserved 1968 Gibson ES-345 TDC "Special" with factory Bigsby tailpiece and custom color Sparkling Burgundy finish. I plugged it in as soon as it arrived from the original owner ...
Candy Apple Red Fender Jazzmaster! Dots and binding 1966

This late 1965/early 1966 Fender Jazzmaster in original custom color Candy Apple Red Metallic finish! This is a really great playing vintage guitar on its original wide frets. Candy Apple Red Metallic may be the most common of Fender's custom colors, but for a good reason: it looks awesome. This Jazzmaster has version 2 of the Fender Candy Apple Red finish which has a gold undercoat instead of ...
Figured Maple on a Vintage Strat? 1965 Fender Lake Placid Blue Stratocaster
Просмотров 2 тыс.2 месяца назад
If you weren't sure if the correct color name for this 1965 Fender Stratocaster was Lake Placid Blue, then that makes at least two of us. I thought at first that it might not be LPB, but when I lifted the pickguard to inspect the finish and clean the electronics...
Pre-CBS Hardtail! 1960 Fender Stratocaster

I finally got one! I've had a lot of pre-CBS Fender Stratocasters, but this it the first non-tremolo ("hardtail" being the collector term) pre-CBS Strat I've personally had. This one is as nice as it could be with a very '59 looking original Sunburst finish that's a lot more orangey than most of the '60 era Sunburst. Most of the Sunburst finishes in 1960 hard a more red hued band between the ye...

Check out this crazy clean 1964 Gibson ES-335 that I was privileged to buy from the daughter of its original owner a few weeks ago at the Nashville guitar show! It's exactly what I was looking for since 1964 is one of the best years for the model. It's the same year as the Clapton ES-335, but more important to me is the neck profile. The '64 neck profile is more similar to the '59 profile measu...

I know little but I would guess this is a 63 or 64. I say this because the bridge lies up parallel with the bridge pickup vs on a slant. I believe you see this more so in 63 and 64 vs 62. In addition, I think it's pretty common to see pots which predate the guitar by a year or two within these models and years. Another indication might be the neck shape... I believe they get thicker as you move from 62 too 64.

As I recall from long ago, Fender custom colors did exist but were exceedingly rare and only began to show up in the dance halls around mid-'62. Being on the East Coast at the time, we didn't get the cool stuff until somewhat after the SoCal guys did. Even then, the Oly white ones were the most often seen, and I never saw a Fiesta Red Fender guitar until considerably later. The one in the vid is most beat but most sweet. Thanks for showing it!

We are blessed to own a 1962 in our family. I cut my teeth on my brother's 1960. They are fine guitars. Probably the very first recording of a Jazzmaster was in late 1958 or early 1959, played by (I am thinking) Roy Lanham on Bobby Darin's "Dream Lover." ruclips.net/video/wVHAQX5sSaU/видео.html

!966 was early enough in the CBS era where the bean counters hadn't yet compromised guitar QC (amps were a different story), so although except for Mustangs, offset Fenders weren't selling very well. At that time, Leo was still consulting full-time for CBS, so product continued to resemble pre-CBS. TLDR: '66 wasn't bad but wasn't quite up to the ones that went before. Leo was in business to make the best instruments he could. CBS was in business to make profit.

Hello. Looked at the site description. Looks like caps from 73 that Gibson used. From 1974 onward I’ve read that most of the large mass production builds were moved down to Nashville and the smaller scale specialized builds remained at Kalamazoo. The smaller scale frets were preferred by Les Paul as used in the 50s for fast playability and chord progressions. More jazz oriented playing.

Hey I hear you! Is it possible that the sound you didn't like was a result of the 300k pots instead of the 500k pots? Gibson went with 300k starting in '73. If this were my guitar, I'd be tempted to drop in a 500k harness to listen for the difference.
